I am funny. No, not haha funny, though I do have a way with the sarcastic wit and the zingers. Nope, peculiar funny. It seems like my brain is wired a certain way and sometimes wiring it some other way takes a conscious effort that doesn't always work.
For example, my aunts and uncles. The guy who was married to my aunt when I was a child is my uncle even if they've been divorced for over 30 years. But the guy who is married to my aunt now is my aunt's husband. Go figger.
And then there's people's names. Mrs. So and So from when I was a child is still Mrs. So and So. And if she came around today and insisted "call me Marge", she'd still be Mrs. So and So in my head. That's probably a big part of why I didn't change my last name when I got married. My name IS my identity somehow.
Today is Mother's Day. Mother's Day is for my mother. When Mom was still alive that meant going by my parents' place with a card and flowers, something she could plant in her garden, which she loved. When I got married, that expanded to include my mother-in-law. I'll never forget the time I handed her some hyacinths and she handed them right back to me. Sensitive nose. lol
So when I had children, heck even when I was pregnant, and people said "Happy Mother's Day" to me, it just struck me funny. Still does. Probably always will! Mother's Day is for Mom. Even if the kids make gifts for me every year... So here's to you Mom, wherever you are. Happy Mother's Day.
