Today we decided (over the kids' kicking, screaming objections) to go to Columbia State Historic park for the day. Columbia is probably the best preserved Gold Rush town in California, and a living history site.

We managed to get out the door at 10 AM sharp, which is unusual for us. We like to sleep in, dawdle and usually manage to drag our butts out more or less noon-ish, by which time everybody is hungry. This is usually followed by the inevitable lunch break which delays us an additional hou… Continue

This morning, Dearra said "the first time"...

Before she could finish the sentence I started singing, "the first time ever I saw your face". When I got to the end of "I thought the sun rose in your eyes", the part where the voice goes all over the place, well my voice went places that no voice should ever go.

So I stopped singing and said, "wow that was bad."

I am funny. No, not haha funny, though I do have a way with the sarcastic wit and the zingers. Nope, peculiar funny. It seems like my brain is wired a certain way and sometimes wiring it some other way takes a conscious effort that doesn't always work.

For example, my aunts and uncles. The guy who was married to my aunt when I was a child is my uncle even if they've been divorced for over 30 years. But the guy who is married to my aunt now is my aunt's husband. Go figger.

I have never worried too much about Health Insurance for myself and my family. I have always had it. First I was covered by my Dad's insurance and later by my company's insurance. During the short periods where I was either unemployed or on leave, I was covered either by my husband's insurance or COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act). I never really worried about pre-existing conditions clauses either, since group insurance plans through an employer generally haven't had them. I… Continue
